The United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland are set to co-host the Euro 2028 after Turkey withdrew to make a joint-bit with Italy for Euro 2032.
From the start, Italy had only made their bid for Euro 2032 but Turkey did for both Euro 2028 and 2032.
However, Turkey agreed to merge their Euro 2032 bid with Italy, which has now been approved by UEFA leaving UK and Ireland as the sole bidders for the European event in 2028.
On Wednesday UEFA said Turkey was focusing all its efforts on the joint bid with Italy.
"As indicated by the FA of Turkey with its submission of the request for a joint bid, their bid to stage UEFA Euro 2028 is consequently withdrawn," the body confirmed.
With no one to compete in a bidding war, it is all but official that after hosting Euro 2020, which was played in 2021 due to Covid-19, the UK will, once again, host the Euros.
In April, 10 grounds were selected for the UK and Republic of Ireland's bid, including Glasgow's Hampden Park, Cardiff's Principality Stadium, Dublin's Aviva Stadium and Wembley in London.
"These are exciting times and we have a very compelling Euro 2028 proposal for Uefa," read a joint statement from the five national associations, from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
"Our bid will be ground-breaking for the men's Euros and will deliver lasting legacies across the whole of the UK and Ireland."
Uefa said: "The presentations at that meeting will be an important part of the process which will take due consideration of the content of the bid submissions before reaching a decision.".
Although Turkey’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium hosted the UEFA Champions League 2022-23 final between Manchester City and Inter Milan but they have never hosted a major international tournament.
Meanwhile, Italy, who are the defending champions, hosted the event in 1968 and 1980.
It must be noted that Russia, who hosted the 2018 FIFA World Cup, also showed interest in hosting the tournament but UEFA did not want to consider any from the Russian Football Union.
The development came after Russian football clubs and national teams were suspended from all UEFA competitions following the war with Ukraine.
